Background
Negative symptoms (avolition, anhedonia, asociality) are a prevalent symptom in those across the psychosis-spectrum and also occur at subclinical levels in the general population. Recent work has begun to examine how environmental contexts (e.g. locations) influence negative symptoms. However, limited work has evaluated how environments may contribute to negative symptoms among youth at clinical high risk for psychosis (CHR). The current study uses Ecological Momentary Assessment to assess how four environmental contexts (locations, activities, social interactions, social interaction method) impact state fluctuations in negative symptoms in CHR and healthy control (CN) participants.
MethodsCHR youth (n = 116) and CN (n = 61) completed 8 daily surveys for 6 days assessing negative symptoms and contexts.
ResultsMixed-effects modeling demonstrated that negative symptoms largely varied across contexts in both groups. CHR participants had higher negative symptoms than CN participants in most contexts, but groups had similar symptom reductions during recreational activities and phone call interactions. Among CHR participants, negative symptoms were elevated in several contexts, including studying/working, commuting, eating, running errands, and being at home.
ConclusionsResults demonstrate that negative symptoms dynamically change across some contexts in CHR participants. Negative symptoms were more intact in some contexts, while other contexts, notably some used to promote functional recovery, may exacerbate negative symptoms in CHR. Findings suggest that environmental factors should be considered when understanding state fluctuations in negative symptoms among those at CHR participants.

We present a calibration component for the Murchison Widefield Array All-Sky Virtual Observatory (MWA ASVO) utilising a newly developed PostgreSQL database of calibration solutions. Since its inauguration in 2013, the MWA has recorded over 34 petabytes of data archived at the Pawsey Supercomputing Centre. According to the MWA Data Access policy, data become publicly available 18 months after collection. Therefore, most of the archival data are now available to the public. Access to public data was provided in 2017 via the MWA ASVO interface, which allowed researchers worldwide to download MWA uncalibrated data in standard radio astronomy data formats (CASA measurement sets or UV FITS files). The addition of the MWA ASVO calibration feature opens a new, powerful avenue for researchers without a detailed knowledge of the MWA telescope and data processing to download calibrated visibility data and create images using standard radio astronomy software packages. In order to populate the database with calibration solutions from the last 6 yr we developed fully automated pipelines. A near-real-time pipeline has been used to process new calibration observations as soon as they are collected and upload calibration solutions to the database, which enables monitoring of the interferometric performance of the telescope. Based on this database, we present an analysis of the stability of the MWA calibration solutions over long time intervals.

Background
In early 2015, a patient from a cluster of cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Monrovia, Liberia traveled to a rural village in Margibi County, potentially exposing numerous persons. The patient died in the village and post-mortem testing confirmed Ebola Virus infection.
ProblemThe Margibi County Health Team (CHT; Kakata, Margibi, Liberia) needed to prevent further transmission of EVD within and outside of the affected villages, and they needed to better understand the factors that support or impede compliance with measures to stop the spread of EVD.
MethodsIn February-March 2015, the Margibi CHT instituted a 21-day quarantine and active monitoring for two villages where the patient had contact with numerous residents, and a 21-day active monitoring for five other villages where the patient had possible contact with an unknown number of persons. One contact developed EVD and quarantine was extended an additional 12 days in one village. In April 2015, the Margibi CHT conducted a household-based EVD knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) survey of the seven villages. From April 24-29, 2015, interview teams approached every household in the seven villages and collected information on demographics, knowledge of EVD, attitudes about quarantine to prevent the spread of EVD, and their quarantine experiences and practices. Descriptive statistics were calculated.
ResultsOne hundred fifteen interviews were conducted, representing the majority of the households in the seven villages. Most (99%) correctly identified touching an infected person’s body fluids and contact with the body of someone who has died from EVD as transmission routes. However, interviewees sometimes incorrectly identified mosquito bites (58%) and airborne spread (32%) as routes of EVD transmission, and 72% incorrectly identified the longest EVD incubation period as ≤seven days. Eight of 16 households in the two quarantined villages (50%) reported times when there was not enough water or food during quarantine. Nine of 16 (56%) reported that a household member had illnesses or injuries during quarantine; of these, all (100%) obtained care from a clinic, hospital, or Ebola treatment unit (ETU).
ConclusionResidents’ knowledge of EVD transmission routes and incubation period were suboptimal. Public health authorities should consider assessing residents’ understanding of Ebola transmission routes and effectively educate them to ensure correct understanding. Quarantined residents should be provided with sufficient food, water, and access to medical care.

Background: Health anxiety (HA), or hypochondriasis, is a psychological problem characterized by a preoccupation with the belief that one is physically unwell. A 2007 Cochrane review (Thomson and Page, 2007) found cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to be an effective intervention for individuals with HA. Similar findings were reported in a recent meta-analysis (Olatunji et al., 2014), which did not employ a systematic search strategy. The current review aimed to investigate the efficacy of CBT for HA, and to update the existing reviews. Method: A systematic search was conducted following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidance, including randomized controlled trials that compared CBT with a control condition for people with HA. Five hundred and sixty-seven studies were found in the original search, of which 14 were included in the meta-analysis. Results: Meta-analysis was conducted on 21 comparisons and a large effect size for CBT compared with a control condition was found at post therapy d = 1.01 (95% confidence interval 0.77–1.25), as well as at 6- and 12-month follow-up. Conclusions: This systematic review and meta-analysis provides support for the hypothesis that CBT is an effective intervention for HA when compared with a variety of control conditions, e.g. treatment-as-usual, waiting list, medication, and other psychological therapies.

Spatial dispersion of potato aphids was studied in fields of processing-tomatoes for 2 years to develop a sequential sampling scheme for the aphid. Potato aphids were found on upper, middle, and lower leaf strata in the percentages 60, 31, and 8. Dispersion was clumped, apterates more so than alates. Among-plant variance was generally greater than within-plant variance. There was a good linear relationship between mean crowding and the population mean and an excellent linear fit between log variance and log mean on all leaf strata for green and pink forms of the aphid and for alates and apterates. The log variance – log mean relationship was used as a basis for sequential sampling.

Experiments on the effect of suction on the flow due to a rotating disk

The stability and transition Reynolds numbers for the flow due to a disk rotating in still air were increased by low rates of suction through either a woven wire-cloth or a slitted surface. Observations on the slitted disk at rotational speeds between 550 and 1250 r.p.m. showed that the critical value of the Reynolds number r2ω/ν for instability increased from about 135,000 without suction to nearly 250,000 for a value of the suction parameter a of 0·4. The corresponding values for transition increased from about 275,000 to about 400,000. A given increase in stability Reynolds number required about 75% more suction than that theoretically predicted for uniform distributed suction, a satisfactory result in view of the limitations of the apparatus.
At higher rates of suction (0·4 < a < 1·6), the reduction in secondary flow allowed transverse turbulent contamination to spread inwards from the rim. Consequently the vortices associated with secondary-flow instability were not found, though disturbances of larger wavelength appeared. Intermittent turbulent flow was spread over a much larger region of the disk and no laminar flow could be obtained above a Reynolds number of 400,000, Owing to this feature of the flow, it was not possible to extend laminar flow to values of the unit Reynolds number (ratio of stream velocity to kinematic viscosity) corresponding to flight conditions on a swept-back wing. It is concluded that the rotating disk is not a satisfactory tool for the investigation of the effects of suction on secondary-flow instabilities such as arise in the case of a swept-back wing, or for the testing of suction surfaces.

Summary
As the previous chapters have indicated, the high degree to which Party and state authorities determine the development and operation of Soviet publishing leaves to the individual publishing-house a severely limited number of directions in which it, as an enterprise, can make important decisions between different options. In recent years, some opinion has been expressed in the Soviet Union that central administration of cultural and educational undertakings, including publishing, should be more flexible and imaginative in its relationship to the creative process, and should restrict its regulation to coordinating work, setting the main ideological lines for publishing plans, and specifying the most important topics to be treated; but moves towards allowing the publishing-house greater discretion in economic and editorial matters have, so far at least, changed its situation to a strictly limited extent. This chapter deals with the relationship of a publishing-house to its controlling organisation (since there is no publisher which is not in this very directly subordinate position); the powers and responsibilities of its staff and consultative organs; its economic situation; its selection and handling of manuscripts; salaries and incentives; the decisions made in its internal planning (including the setting of edition sizes); and its links with the censorship.

Summary
Publishing policies, in the USSR as elsewhere, are not necessarily either consistent or coherent. Issues rise to the surface for discussion and decision as a result of complex pressures and of circumstances which are by no means all open to observation. Subject to these unavoidable obstacles in the way of a precise or complete picture, conclusions from the evidence presented in this book are expressed here as the outcome of the intention declared in chapter 1: to show the effects of the interaction between the special characteristics of publishing and some distinctive features of Soviet society; and to illustrate their impact on the books which appear in the USSR.
Western descriptions of Soviet publishing policy have tended to emphasise the Soviet view of publishing as a tool of social and ideological influence; the unchallenging observance of directives from superior authority; and the subordination of economic considerations to political imperatives in the industry's management. The evidence presented in this book indicates that these matters of emphasis, while certainly elements in Soviet publishing policy, are misleading if over-stressed or taken in isolation.
Soviet publishing administrators work within an industrial system which is less open to radical manipulation than the accepted Western view suggests.
